Job Description: Community Coordinator

Position Title: Community Coordinator
Reports To: FRNNG Board of Directors
Employment Status: Part-Time (10-15 hours/week)
FLSA Status: This is an independent contractor role. The selected individual will be engaged under a W-9 and will be responsible for their own taxes and insurance. No employment benefits are provided. A 1099 will be issued annually.
Work Location: Hybrid (Remote, In-Person, and Field-Based in South Minneapolis)
Salary Range: $30–$36/hour, commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Community Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Field, Regina, Northrop Neighborhood Group (FRNNG), a nonprofit neighborhood organization serving South Minneapolis. This position supports the volunteer Board of Directors by coordinating communications, community engagement, administrative functions, and implementation of board-directed initiatives. The role requires a strong commitment to equity, collaboration, and relationship-building with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Serve as the primary liaison between FRNNG and residents, local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations.

  • Facilitate inclusive participation in FRNNG activities through direct outreach, relationship-building, and accessible programming.

  • Represent FRNNG at community events, public meetings, and neighborhood gatherings.

  • Promote awareness of FRNNG services, programs, and initiatives across multiple platforms.

2. Communications & Marketing

  • Develop and distribute newsletters, flyers, social media content, press releases, and other communication materials.

  • Maintain and update the FRNNG website and digital channels.

  • Design and implement outreach strategies that reflect the organization’s equity goals and accessibility commitments.

3. Program & Event Coordination

  • Support the planning and execution of FRNNG-sponsored events and programs.

  • Assist board and committee members with program implementation, including scheduling, logistics, supplies, and volunteer coordination.

  • Track program deliverables and assist in evaluation efforts.

4. Board Support & Organizational Governance

  • Work with the Board President and committee chairs to prepare the meeting agenda and document board actions.

  • Maintain board records, bylaws, policies, and organizational calendars.

  • Attend all monthly board of directors meetings

  • Assist with board member recruitment, onboarding, and communication.

5. Administration & Financial Tracking

  • Maintain physical and digital records, organizational files, and office supplies.

  • Support financial management processes in collaboration with the Treasurer, including vendor payments, grant expense tracking, and invoice documentation.

  • Submit reports to the City of Minneapolis or other funders as required by grant agreements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in community engagement, nonprofit coordination, event planning, communications, or public service, specifically with the City of Minneapolis

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and basic graphic design (e.g., Canva).

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and economic equity and inclusive community building.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the Field, Regina, and Northrop neighborhoods or South Minneapolis community organizations.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (Spanish, Somali, or Hmong preferred).

  • Prior experience supporting a board of directors or a volunteer-led organization.

  • Understanding of the City of Minneapolis Neighborhoods 2020 funding framework or similar grant-funded operations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Hybrid position requiring both remote and in-person work.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required for board meetings and community events.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (event materials, outreach supplies, etc.).

  • Valid driver’s license or ability to travel within the neighborhood preferred.
